What is the World Best Sports Event Deciding whats is the world's greatest sports event is not easy. Many people will give many answers, depending on their location and the game of their choice. Of course, there are some people who dislike sporting events and simply do not care for it in any way, shape or form, or else there may be some who like sports which are a little more obscure. If viewing figures on the TV and in stadiums are anything to go by, The NFL is one of the most watched games on the planet. However, unlike a lot of other games, the NFL teams do not play as many games as the other contests. Therefore, it might be considered unfair to compare something like the Superbowl, which is a one-off game, to sports that have a play-off series. As a sport, Major League Baseball is watched by millions of fans every year. These are not just armchair fans. There are millions of men, women and children that go to live games every year. The MLB World Series has a large audience. Some say that the nature of the sport means that if one team is clearly better than another, or if a team from a major city like New York, Boston or Philadelphia does not make it to the World Series, then interest is not so high. Soccer is a sort played almost every where in the world. Each territory has its own tournaments and players but one thing that brings the soccer world together is the World Cup. Some have called it the greatest sports event in the world, simply because, unlike some games, there are representations from different continents. A huge part of this boast is also the 4-year revolving door of venues, which gives fans the chance to visit other countries to watch the sport. Whereas a World Cup and a Superbowl are one-time sporting contests, the Stanley Cup finals and NBA finals are a best of 7 sporting event. They both involve contests between the best teams from the eastern conference and the best from the western conference. Though these are popular past times, the viewing figures for a Superbowl and World Cup final are usually higher. There are many other events, and listing them all would take another article. Contests like the Daytona 500, Indy 500, the Wimbledon tennis championships and the US Masters are considered by many to be the best in their niche. There are also games such as cricket, which has a huge following in India and merits a mention. Soccer is played to great popularity, not only at the national level, but at club level. The Champions League had franchises all over the world and a weekly TV audience of millions. Once the main club season is over, sometimes there is yet more soccer. Aside from soccer's World Cup there is also the Copa America and the European Championships. There is one sports event which brings people together, along with other activities. The Olympics has a global appeal, simply because it involves a wealth of nations. Spectators can get to see sports they wouldn't have the opportunity to look at ordinarily.

Will Ultimate Fighting Prepare You For The Street? The current popularity of the Ultimate Fighting Championship is undeniable. UFC fight card results have become fodder for water cooler discussions across North America. Mixed Martial Arts gyms are becoming increasingly prevalent as techniques like kimura's and omaplata's have become part of our vernacular. Recent articles in The Globe and Mail (From the couch to the cage), and in The New York Times Magazine(Gladiator), are documenting the growing interest in MMA and the training centres sprouting up across North America as a result. It's easy to think this type of training is the answer for surviving street violence. The athletic prowess of professional MMA fighters is awe-inspiring; the level of physical conditioning and the fighting skills they posses are impressive. But does ultimate fighting equate to the reality of an authentic street confrontation? By authentic, I'm referring to a confrontation where you are being attacked and are the perceived and targeted victim. The heavyweight belt is not at stake - your life is. There are three significant differences between combative sports like the UFC, Boxing and other MMA professional fighting competitions and an authentic street confrontation (i.e. street combat). In the street there is: 1. No Consent 2. No Preparation 3. No Awareness of intent A professional fighter has had typically six to ten weeks to prepare for a fight. He knows when he's going to fight, where the fight will take place and who will be standing at the other side of the octagon waiting for him. This is not to diminish the battles a full contact fighter faces every time he walks into the octagon. There's a high probability for serious physical injury whether he wins or loses the fight. The distinctions listed above however are significant. The Reality of the Street Visualize the following situation: you're leaving your favourite restaurant with your significant other; you've had a few glasses of wine and are feeling good and relaxed, thinking about the rest of your evening or that rare Bordeaux you just enjoyed. As you walk to your car you're approached by a stranger brandishing a knife. He demands you hand him your wallet. The physiological and emotional changes you're experiencing at that moment are significantly different than those experienced by an ultimate fighter walking into the octagon to defend his title. The threat of injury and/or death to yourself and your significant other are very real. How you take control of your fear and the psychology of this confrontation will dictate whether or not you get home in one piece.
